The world-renowned Pavel Haas Quartet will open the upcoming concert season again after a year at the La Skala Amphitheatre in the beautiful surroundings of Malá Skála near Turnov, where on Sunday 18 August they will present works by Antonín Dvořák and Leoš Janáček. Most of the ensemble’s autumn concert activities will be in the spirit of the culminating celebrations of the Year of Czech Music 2024.
One of the 10 best string quartets of all time, as named by the British BBC Music Magazine, its domestic fans can look forward to two concerts at the Dvořák Prague Festival on 8 and 23 September, the second of which will be the culmination of a three-year project to perform the complete works of Antonín Dvořák for string quartet, curated by the Pavel Haas Quartet. Together with pianist Boris Giltburg, the ensemble will also visit the Janáček Brno Festival on 16 November. Among prestigious international venues, the quartet’s diary includes important festivals such as Schubertiade in Austria, Rheingau Musik Festival in Germany, Bath Mozartfest and a regular stop at London’s Wigmore Hall in the UK. The highlight will be the Pavel Haas Quartet’s participation in the Czech Music Week at New York’s Carnegie Hall in December, where the ensemble will present a programme of purely Czech artists with exclusively Czech repertoire as part of the celebration of the Year of Czech Music 2024. Cellist Peter Jarůšek commented on the upcoming artistic activities: “We have some really beautiful concerts coming up. It is very nice to start the season in such a pleasant, original and informal environment as the La Skala Amphitheatre in Malá Skála. It is such a tradition and it would be a pleasure for us to continue it. We are also very happy to return to the Rheingau Musik Festival and, of course, to our favourite Schubertiade or the Wigmore Hall, where we already feel at home. We were also delighted to accept an invitation to the Czech Music Week at the famous Carnegie Hall in New York, where we will meet our colleagues from the Czech Philharmonic and the Prague Philharmonic Choir. We are currently enjoying a bit of a holiday break, but we definitely have a lot to look forward to!”
